Patient/Physician Cooperatives Texas Patient Advocates Address Members’ Health Challenges During Hurricane Recovery

HOUSTON – September 26, 2017 – Patient/Physician Cooperatives Texas remained open during Hurricane Harvey and since has helped members and nonmembers alike with medical challenges as the area recovers. The organization’s CEO and Founder Don McCormick praised its staff members for their unwavering commitment to serving the community.

We are especially proud of our patient advocate team who worked tirelessly to help ensure flood victims received the support they needed,” said McCormick. “Patient advocacy is one of the most important benefits of our healthcare program. Our professional advocates work outside existing reimbursement-based healthcare systems in order to bring members the best care they can get.”

We were able to work with our partner Teladoc to handle nonemergency medical issues and determine interim treatment options for minor injuries until patients were able to reconnect with their regular physicians,” added McCormick. “Many flood victims were in need of filling medical prescriptions and had become separated from their regular physician. Our patient advocates were able to help spare other medical resources in our community to treat and manage more serious or chronic illnesses.”

One such patient advocate is Sugar Land resident Jesse Eastes, who has been with Patient/Physician Cooperatives since February. A retired US Army veteran with a Masters degree in Healthcare Innovations, Eastes began emailing members before the storm hit to remind them that Patient/Physician Cooperatives would remain open for those who had healthcare concerns.

Sometimes members just needed to talk to someone for reassurance that there was a healthcare resource available in spite of the disruption to their normal lives,” said Eastes. “Navigating the healthcare system is often complicated in the best of times. Compassion and understanding were even more important in order to address the anxiety and depression following the disaster.”

When he was not on the phone solving members’ medical issues, Eastes was working with his wife, daughter and other like-minded veterans coordinating rescue efforts and helping obtain emergency equipment and supplies.

About Patient/Physician Cooperatives

Patient/Physician Cooperatives is a comprehensive healthcare system, starting with a group of physicians, health practitioners, and patients working together to provide access to affordable, basic healthcare. Contracts for medical services are made directly between the patient and physician members. By creating this comprehensive system, incorporating medical discount programs, and a variety of association, group, or employer sponsored insurance plans, Patient/Physician Cooperatives has effectively eliminated the red-tape that acts as a barrier to providing patients with high-quality care. Unlike most insurance companies, PPC has no exclusions for age, income or pre-existing conditions. For details call (866) 549-4199 or visit https://hou.patientphysiciancoop.com
