Patient/Physician Cooperatives is Now CooperativePlus
HOUSTON – February 13, 2017 – Patient/Physician Cooperatives (PPC) CEO and Founder, Don McCormick, announced a makeover for the Texas healthcare cooperative. Now relabeled CooperativePlus, the nonprofit organization is trading in its name and logo to better represent its modern, fresh approach to wellness.
“One of the most significant changes taking place in the healthcare industry is the shift toward putting the patient at the center of care,” said McCormick. “This healthcare ‘consumerism’ swings the focus from providers, insurance companies, and other participants in the industry to patients—the actual consumers. Patients are interested in programs that will help them stay well at rates they can actually afford.”
Cost is a top consideration for selection of healthcare programs. For example, 50 percent of millennials (ages 18 to 34) delay medical treatment because of cost, according to consumer research from Xerox. The study cites that Gen Xers, or those between 35 and 49, are the next most concerned about healthcare expense, with 59 percent listing cost as a top consideration when selecting a provider.
Enter CooperativePlus. It not only offers high quality healthcare plans at affordable rates, but it also offers services that help members stay well. Through membership in CooperativePlus, patients receive unlimited primary care physician visits for needed treatment, lab work and medical imaging. They gain a personal patient advocate, 24/7 access to a doctor for unexpected non-emergency conditions, and many other valuable benefits. As a result, patients can focus on wellness rather being concerned about expensive co-pays and deductibles.
“Cooperatives have existed for many years,” says McCormick. “We have evolved the standard cooperative, adding much more value and creating a viable alternative to traditional insurance – hence our new name, CooperativePlus.”

CooperativePlus is a comprehensive healthcare system starting with a group of physicians, health practitioners, and patients working together to provide access to affordable healthcare. Contracts for medical services are made directly between the patient and physician members. CooperativePlus has effectively eliminated the red tape that acts as a barrier to providing patients with high quality care. This is accomplished through a comprehensive model that incorporates medical discount programs along with a variety of association, group or employer-sponsored insurance options. Unlike traditional insurance companies, CooperativePlus has no exclusions for age (under 65), income, or pre-existing conditions. There are many plans from which to select.
